The world Chess Champ Viswananthan Anad born on 11th December, 1969 (38) at Chennai in India. He won the Grand Master title in 1988 and became the World Champion in 2007.
Mr. Anand got several titles including National Sub-Junior Chess Champion at the age of 14 in 1983, International Master at the age of 15 in 1984, Indian National Champion at the age of 16 in 1985, World Junior Chess Champion in 1987, Grandmaster in 1988, FIDE World Chess Champion in 2000, FIDE World Rapid Chess Champion in 2003 and FIDE World Chess Champion (Undisputed) in 2007.
His highest rating was 2783 in April, 2008 and in April, 2008. Anand is one among the four players in history to cross the 2800 mark on the FIDE ratings. He was on the top of the world rating list five out of six times from April 2007 to July 2008. In October 2008, he dropped out of the world top 3 for the first time since July 1996.
He was honored with many awards including the second highest civilian award Padma Vibhushan from Government of India in 2007. He was the recipient of India’s highest Sports Award, Rajive Gandhi Khel Ratna in 1991-92. Other awards he received were Arjuna Award in 1985, Padma Shri at the age of 18 in 1987 and Padma Bhushan in 2000. He received many international Awards including British Chess Federation Book of the year award in 1998, Chess Oscar in 1997, 1998, 2003, 2004 and 2007 and Jameo de Oro the highest honour given by the Government of Lanzarote in Spain on 25th April 2001.
